The mid-sized forward had his first taste of AFL football in round 19 against Carlton when he came in as a late replacement for Cyril Rioli and had eight disposals and three tackles. Otherwise, he spent his first year in the AFL system at Box Hill where he kicked 16 goals in 15 matches, with a personal best of three against Richmond. The Hawks like his hardness at the contest and his scoring ability and expect him to play more senior footy in 2017.
